At King GREEN, we are quite used to water restrictions. Most of our customers are routinely under some kind of watering ban most of the year, and we are okay with that. Water restrictions are good for our environment and your lawn. They conserve a precious resource and teach people how to water properly. That is: long and deep, but not often. Twice a week is really all you should need to water your lawn as long as you really soak it (1″ of water) each time. And it’s best to water in the mornings or evenings, since during the heat of the day much of the water evaporates before it gets down into the soil.
Check with your county/utilities as to when and how you can water, and then water as best you can during drought conditions. The information changes often and can be different in various counties and municipalities. Websites are normally your best source for accurate information, since utility employees can sometimes be as confused as the rest of us! We have provided a partial list of websites at right for your convenience. Some counties even have variances available that allow you to water additionally for some new seedings and installations (often those over 75% new), so be sure to look for those.
