Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Without a doubt, trees and lawns complement each other aesthetically in our landscapes. When it comes to coexisting peacefully, however, we can sometimes run into problems.

For example, turf growing underneath shade trees may struggle due to a lack of sunlight. Tree roots and bark can be damaged by lawn mowers and string trimmers. In some cases, tree and lawn roots are even forced to compete with each other for available water and nutrients.
So what can we do to help our trees and lawns get along better? Quite a few things, actually!

So what can we do to help our trees and lawns get along better? Quite a few things, actually!

Mulching – Applied properly, mulch will help to keep mowers and other lawn equipment away from tree trunks and roots.

Pruning – Professional pruning will help
to improve your trees’ health and appearance, and more sunlight will be able to reach the turf underneath when branches are thinned out.

Fertilizing – Your lawn and trees need to be fertilized regularly with a formulation that meets their specific nutritional needs.

There’s no need for a rivalry between your trees and lawn. Give King GREEN
a call to learn more about helping them to get along.

Revitalize Your Fescue Lawn

To keep your Fescue lawn looking beautiful, it needs to be revitalized with aeration and overseeding every fall. Fescue doesn’t spread by runners and must be repopulated once per year. Fall is the best time to do this.

With our aeration and overseeding service, King GREEN can replenish turf density and help your lawn to bounce back from summer disease, heat stress and drought conditions. Our turf-type tall Fescue seed is the finest available, and King GREEN guarantees your satisfaction with this service.

Depending on how quickly you respond, we will complete our aeration and overseeding service sometime between late August through October. Please give us a call today so that we can include you on our schedule.

Fall is Best for Planting Success

Trees can be planted anytime throughout the growing season, but if you want to give your new additions a real advantage, fall is the ideal time to do it. There’s less of a chance for transplant shock in fall’s cooler weather. Plus, the new trees will be able to put out roots and get firmly established in your landscape before summer’s hot, dry and stressful weather returns next year.

Planting Tips

• It’s essential to account for the tree’s eventual, mature size when planting. It will need to have ample room for growth so that you don’t have to worry about severe pruning down the road. Also, keep in mind that turf underneath maturing trees may need a little extra help, since excess shade can prohibit turf growth.
• Larger trees or those that are top-heavy should be staked for support.
• It’s best to plant in a location that has good drainage.
• The root ball should be planted at the same depth as it was growing in the nursery. The biggest mistake home-
owners make in planting trees and
shrubs is planting them too deep.
• Any plastic twine or synthetic burlap should be removed to avoid strangling
the roots.
• Finally, new plantings should be watered consistently, and especially during any dry periods throughout the winter.
